MAPS is a non-profit and non-governmental organization registered in Germany, Lebanon, and Türkiye. MAPS aims to empower and build the capacity of the Syrian and Arab Refugee communities in Lebanon, Türkiye, and IDPs inside Syria to enable them to thrive in their current context and contribute to rebuilding Syria after the conflict; through different sectors: education, health, relief, livelihood, innovation, and capacity building.
About the role
The Finance Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the financial management and coordination of operations in both Turkey and the north of Syria. This position is vital in ensuring the efficient use of funds, accurate financial reporting, and compliance with donor regulations. The Finance Coordinator collaborates closely with program teams, donors, and operations teams to support effective financial operations in a challenging and dynamic context.
Responsibilities
Financial Planning and Budgeting:
- Work closely with program teams to develop project budgets and ensure alignment with program objectives.
- Participate in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts for the organization.
- Monitor budget performance and provide insights to inform decision-making.
Financial Reporting and Compliance:
- Prepare comprehensive and timely financial reports, including donor reports and internal financial statements.
- Ensure adherence to donor regulations and reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with external auditors to facilitate audits and ensure compliance.
Grant Management:
- Coordinate financial aspects of grant proposals, including budget preparation and cost allocations.
- Support grant compliance and reporting, ensuring accurate and transparent documentation.
Financial Operations:
- Oversee day-to-day financial activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in compliance with local regulations.
Cash Flow Management:
- Monitor cash flow to ensure availability of funds for operational needs.
- Manage cash disbursements, transfers, and currency exchange as required.
Internal Controls and Risk Management:
- Strengthen internal financial controls to prevent fraud and ensure accountability.
- Identify financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
Capacity Building and Training:
- Train and mentor finance staff on financial management best practices.
- Provide capacity-building support to program staff on financial procedures.
Coordination and Collaboration:
- Foster collaboration between finance and program teams to ensure smooth project implementation.
- Work closely with logistics and procurement teams to optimize financial processes.
Donor and Partner Relations:
- Build and maintain positive relationships with donors, local partners, and relevant stakeholders.
- Participate in donor meetings and provide financial updates as needed.
Reporting and Analysis:
- Generate financial analysis, trends, and projections to support strategic decision-making.
- Provide timely financial insights to senior management.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred.
- At least five years of experience in financial management, with experience in the humanitarian sector preferred.
- Strong knowledge of financial management, accounting principles, and reporting standards.
- Strong analytical skills and be able to interpret financial data to make informed decisions.
- Detail-oriented to ensure that financial records are accurate and all financial reporting requirements are met.
- Able to communicate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
- Knowledge of donor regulations and grant management.
- Should be proficient in financial software and accounting (QuickBooks online) packages, as well as Microsoft Excel and other relevant software programs.
- In-depth knowledge of the Turkish tax system, including understanding tax regulations, reporting, and compliance.
- Fluent in English and Arabic, with Turkish language skills preferred.
- Strong commitment to the values and mission of the organization.
