‘Better Learning Program’ motion graphic scenes for instructional videos

Project: ‘Better Leaning Program’
NRC COs: Palestine and Middle East MERO office
Time frame: September – October 2016
Objective: Development of motion graphic scenes for the BLP instructional videos

The ‘Better Learning Program’ (BLP) background

The BLP is a school-based intervention combining psychological and education approaches to support conflict-affected children recover their lost or reduced learning capacity while promoting their resilience and well-being. The first stage of the program (BLP-1) is carried out by teachers and targets all pupils by providing support to stimulate their resilience and natural recovery process through providing explanations on normal reactions after experiencing crisis and teaching relaxing methods to enhance the pupil’s normal coping resources. The teachers are trained on techniques on how to manage a classroom with children who have gone through stressful and traumatic events. The second phase (BLP-2) targets children with chronic problems that severely affect their school functioning and it is carried out through counsellors working on exposure, drawing, construction of a coherent trauma narrative and calming and regulating exercises.

Scale up of BLP and objective of instructional videos development

NRC has been working on scaling up the implementation of BLP in the Middle East countries through training teachers, counselors and parents on BLP tools so that they can help students reduce stress, sleep problems and better engage in classrooms. NRC is planning to produce instructional videos to support teachers, counselors and parents in the training and awareness raising sessions of BLP. NRC will develop the videos in cooperation with the University of Tromso in Norway. The first video will address teachers and parents on the BLP-1 classroom practices and techniques while the second one will focus on BLP- 2 group and individual session’s practices. NRC is planning to use graphic motion static scenes as background to the two instructional videos.

NRC is planning to have three motion graphic scenes to provide silent, meaningful background in the instructional videos. The motion graphic scenes will be used as a background together with written words, phrases and sentences that NRC will develop.
