Turkey: Mental Health & Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Officer - National Post

ROLE PURPOSE: Under the direct supervision of the Senior Child Protection Officer and with the technical support of the Regional MHPSS Specialist, the MHPSS Officer will provide the psychosocial support (PSS) needed for adolescents and youth who are attending to the Adolescent Friendly Centers (AFC) of Save the Children. S/he will lead on the delivery of Save the Children structured PSS activities in AFCs and will also be the technical backstop to all field staff conducting PSS activities with adolescents and youth.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

· Deliver the PSS classes in the AFCs

· Provide technical capacity building to the PSS assistant facilitators

· Contribute in the design of adolescent and family assessments and psychometrics tools and supervise their administration.

· Develop a detailed monthly action plan for the main PSS activities to be conducted.

· Technically supervise and support project’s field staff on providing basic psychosocial support for children through material review and approval, trainings, and on site observation and debriefing sessions.

· Conduct group awareness sessions with adolescents and youth attending to AFCs or referred from outreach workers and case management officers.

· Support the implementation of activities such as Journey of Hope and Youth Resilience Programme.

· Assist Save the Children team in developing and documenting a replicable psychosocial model

· Assist Save the Children team in rolling out MHPSS Monitoring & Evaluation tools (such as the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire)

· Refer severe cases to appropriate psychological/psychiatric service providers

· Help in the capacity building of SC Staff across the humanitarian program.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Required

  • Degree in psychology, mental health or other relevant field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience MHPSS work
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including team leading and influencing.
  • Extensive experience in delivering trainings.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills English
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in Turkish or Arabic
  • Comfortable with high levels of ambiguity and able to take decisions independently in fluid context.
  • Commitment to Save the Children values and Child Safeguarding.

Desired

· Advanced degree in Psychology, Mental Health or other relevant field Experience in working on MHPSS with children and/or adolescents

· Experience in working with Syrian refugees
