Shafak was officially established in 10-10-2013 (registration no. 27-016-129). It was founded during the early months of the Syrian Crisis in 2011. At its core, Shafak is a grassroots NGO that was formed by Syrians for Syrians, with the intent of addressing the needs of their life with dignity, equality and humanity with a focus on sustainability and autonomy.
Shafak is an impartial, independent, non-profit NGO that exists for the express purpose of providing humanitarian services to vulnerable people regardless of political or religious affiliations and on the long run to contribute to recover and rebuilding the society on freedom, justice and equality basis.

Role Purpose
The Grants Manager serves as the primary grant and proposal writer, manages funder relationships, engages in compliance reporting, and supports special project initiatives. This position requires strong writing, data analysis, program budgeting, project management skills, with an emphasis on grant compliance and outcome measurement.

Key areas of accountability and responsibilities:
Strategic Management
Participates in strategic planning as a member of the senior management team
Ability to monitor and apply grants regulations related to foundations
Knowledge of and experience in philanthropy and the non-profit sector
Understanding of foundation’s program areas and mission
Leadership and Problem Solving Capacity
Demonstrated experience in formulating and implementing policies and procedures
Ability to think and act decisively about program and operational issues
Capacity to group abstract ideas and form coherent picture
Ability to objectively analyse a situation and evaluate pros and cons of any course of action
Support grant proposal development/submission
Support program teams in proposals writing, preparing and organizing materials for proposals, and submitting and monitoring grant applications
Submit grant applications with Coordination with Programs Manager
Maintain grant compliance and reporting, including outcome measurement and grant budgets
Rresponsibility for meeting high standards of effectiveness, timeliness, and completeness.
Monitor and maintain the funder reporting schedules and requirements.
Track progress toward organizational and programmatic outcomes and goals.
Request reimbursements and drawdowns as needed
Assemble all necessary supporting materials and documents including budget reports, outcome
Manage third-party Social Compliance audit providers, as needed
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Substantial experience in grant management.
- Master degree in finance, development or other social sciences or experience that could be evaluated as commensurate
- Robust experience of emergency programme cycle management, and experience of working within a complex and matrix structure
- Demonstrable experience successfully managing funds from a range of donors e.g. DFID, UN Grants etc.
- Experience in international humanitarian systems, institutions and donors, and of procedures, accountability frameworks and best practices in emergency management
- Familiar with effective financial and budgetary control
- Ability to analyse information, evaluate options and to think and plan strategically
- Previous experience of managing and developing a team and the ability to lead, motivate and develop others
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to work under stress
