About Hand in Hand for Syria

Hand in Hand for Syria is a non-political, non-sectarian organization founded in May 2011 to provide humanitarian relief to people inside Syria. Hand in Hand is registered in the UK with a head office in London and two offices in Turkey. With six international partners, projects cover the health, WASH, shelter, food security, NFI and education sectors and directly employ over 450 field staff inside Syria.

Description of the Job

The WASH Project Coordinator (PC) will be responsible for the implementation of a WASH project in partnership with an International NGOs. The purpose of the role is to ensure that projects are run in accordance with international standards, following humanitarian principles. He or she works with representatives of other NGOs and with individuals in Hand in Hand such as the Finance, Logistics and MEAL team throughout the project cycle. This person reports directly to the Programs Manager.

Location of the Work

Gaziantep, Turkey with occasional travel to Reyhanli and Antakya. May require travel to Syria if security situation permits.

Responsibilities of the Job

1. Coordinate all phases of the project -- planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting, and evaluation.

2. Prepare weekly and monthly report to the program manager as well as the project partner.

3. Responsible for ensuring that projects meet international standards such as Sphere guidelines WHO protocols where applicable.

4. Communicate and coordinate regularly with project staff in the field to ensure compliance with the project log frame and agreements with the partner agency.

5. Works closely with HIH data manager to ensure timely and accurate project data and donor reporting.

6. Is active in sector coordination meetings and activities, and maintains good relationships with other agencies.

7. Plan and implement project activities as described in the project proposal and ensure that activities are relevant to project objectives and indicators.

8. Implement monitoring systems for all project activities, and ensure that means of verification are regularly collected from the field.

9. Participate in regular meetings with project partner(s) for discussion and problem solving.

10. Participate in NGO coordination meetings in the appropriate sector (e.g. Health, Nutrition, WASH, etc.).

11. Attend trainings as required by project partner or Hand in Hand management team.

12. Provide information about the project to Hand in Hand as required for media presentations or for writing future project proposals.

13. Participates in field assessments as needed.

Skills and Education Required

· Knowledge of WASH technical skills

· Excellent English skills-- speaking, reading, writing

· Previous experience with International or local NGO

· Excellent computer skills including Word, Excel, Power Point, Internet, Email programs

· Organizes work for greater efficiency and accountability

· Maintains good working relationships with colleagues

· Demonstrates good time management skills
