Background

ARK Group DMCC is a stabilisation, development and conflict transformation consultancy that provide research-informed analysis and policy recommendations, as well as evidence-based interventions, in conflict-affected areas from the Palestinian camps of Lebanon and Yemen to Iraq and Syria on behalf of public and private sector clients. Working with and through local communities, we seek to understand and then mitigate the negative effects of conflict and instability to enhance community safety and promote human security, development and economic opportunity.

For the past five years ARK has been at the forefront of the regional response to the Syrian conflict. Working for governmental donors, ARK has supported conflict-affected communities on the ground. Programmes have included sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) responses and launching the programme of life-saving support to Syria’s Civil Defence teams. We have a highly dynamic, capable, multinational team with offices in Dubai, Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, London and Washington DC.

ARK Comms is engaged in delivering a media capacity-building and support programme in Syria. The Production Manager is a crucial position for project delivery. He/she will draw on a strong professional track record in media production and/or journalism to overseeing and co-ordinate the delivery, production and distribution of media content, in a timely manner, within budget and in line with the programme’s strategic objectives.

Tasks & Responsibilities
• Manage and co-ordinate a team of ARK media staff and freelance producers to generate and deliver required content.
• Provide editorial supervision of all media content to ensure that messaging is in line with project objectives, and production style is tailored according to the output requirements.
• Act as the ‘senior editor’ to sign-off scripts and other content, providing guidance and advice in the process in order to build the editorial skills of other team members. This may involve sub-editing scripts for TV packages, online videos and other content, to ensure high-quality, engaging content.
• Manage the production schedule for several platforms across different formats (including TV, online, radio and print), to fulfil production targets and ensure all production information is recorded and tracked in a systematic way.
• Support the Programme Manager in information collection and reporting, including drafting a monthly production update.
• Deliver remote/online media training and capacity-building to project partners inside Syria, as required.
• Liaise with the team’s Monitoring and Evaluation Officer to ensure the impact of media content is effectively measured and captured.
• Work with the Project Officer to ensure all administrative requirements associated with production are fulfilled (eg finance, contracting, procurement, compliance).
• Other ad hoc work, as required by the Programme Manager, in order to fulfil strategic objectives.

Experience & Qualifications

Essential:
• Fluent Arabic and English (written and spoken). Media outputs will principally be in Arabic, but some English-language outputs may be required.
• A strong professional track record in media production and/or journalism.
• Excellent editorial judgement.
• Production experience of different media formats, including video and online.
• Knowledge of the Syrian conflict, and political/social developments within Syria and the wider MENA region.
• Knowledge of the Syrian media landscape.
• Highly organised.
• Proven ability to competently manage a diverse creative team
• Excellent team player, with the ability to work constructively and productively with people from different cultures and backgrounds, to ensure that tasks are achieved.
• A flexible and pro-active approach to the work, with an ability to think creatively to solve problems.

Desirable:
• A strong network of freelance production contacts, ideally drawn from the Syrian community.
• A strong network of contacts within Syrian and international media organisations.
• Experience of working with grassroots media activists.
