Chemonics seeks a quality learning officer or manager for the Manahel project to enhance access and quality of education for children. Manahel will carry out crosscutting activities that lead to 300,000 children (half girls, half boys), including those marginalized, gaining access to safe and inclusive education and up to 50 percent of them achieving basic learning outcomes. The quality learning officer will be part of the core technical team tasked with developing, designing, and planning Manahel’s integrated interventions. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities include:
- Oversee day-to-day technical implementation of Manahel’s quality education interventions
- Contribute to design of quality education activities, with a focus on literacy and numeracy, in collaboration with the quality education lead
- Identify, develop, and monitor implementation of Manahel’s instruction and pedagogy training modules
- Liaise closely with the child protection officer or manager to ensure that activities include safeguarding for children from potential adverse impacts and psychosocial support in education interventions
- Adhere to Chemonics’ and the International Sustainability and Development’s professional code of ethics and will make these principles a part of the project’s culture and operating procedures
- Uphold Manahel’s safeguarding standards and promote a safeguarding culture among partners, beneficiaries, and staff
- Foster and maintain good relationships with potential and actual grantees, including disclosing any affiliations that could be perceived as a conflict of interest and maintaining confidentiality on project activities
- Review deliverables received from partners to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Direct day-to-day relationships with quality education activity partners including Education Directorates and NGOs to ensure effective implementation
- Contribute to reports on quality education interventions as needed
- Work closely with the monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) director to develop monitoring and evaluation tools and plans related to quality education interventions and to incorporate feedback from the field and MEL into intervention design
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required
- Minimum two years of experience in developing and implementing different education programs to improve education quality
- Familiarity with in-service teacher development for lower elementary, Grades 1 through 4
- Strong understanding about the context, and the conflict and security situation in Syria; experience in Syria strongly preferred
- Experience working with different levels of stakeholders, including local actors and local and international NGOs
- Knowledge of the political, humanitarian, and education sector dynamics within the Syrian context
- Proven ability as a team player and strong communication and writing skills
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
- Fluency in Arabic, with strong speaking and writing skills in English
