Turkey: Child protection officer and manager

Chemonics seeks a child protection officer or manager for the Manahel project to enhance access and quality of education for children. Manahel will carry out crosscutting activities that lead to 300,000 children (half girls, half boys), including those marginalized, gaining access to safe and inclusive education and up to 50 percent of them achieving basic learning outcomes. The child protection officer and manager will be part of the core Manahel technical team tasked with designing and planning integrated interventions. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to the development of Manahel’s psychosocial and inclusive education training modules to strengthen psychosocial support and inclusion in the learning environment, as well as the protection and psychosocial well-being of learners, teachers, and other education personnel
  • Work closely with the technical team to develop and plan an integrated approach to deliver Manahel’s quality education interventions in all provinces targeted, and ensure the integration of child protection principles
  • Adhere to Chemonics’ and International Sustainability and Development’s professional code of ethics and make these principles a part of the project’s culture and operating procedures
  • Uphold Manahel’s safeguarding standards at all times and promote a safeguarding culture among partners, beneficiaries, and staff
  • Foster and maintain good relationships with potential and actual grantees, including by disclosing any affiliations that could be perceived as a conflict of interest and maintaining confidentiality on project activities
  • Liaise with education actors to facilitate the integration of child protection practices and protocols at both the school and directorate levels
  • Support the scaleup of complaints mechanisms and a child protection allegation reporting system
  • Assist with arrangements for Psychosocial Support Services/**I**nclusion conferences for stakeholders and beneficiaries
  • Ensure the technical quality of design and delivery of psychosocial training modules, continually incorporating feedback from the field and monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities
  • Oversee the technical implementation of the training modules by local partner(s) or staff
  • Work closely with the monitoring, evaluation, and learning director to develop monitoring and evaluation tools and plans related to child protection interventions
  • Actively contribute to the project’s strategic analysis to ensure alignment of project objectives with the evolving conflict, political, and security situation in Syria
  • Contribute to a wide range of project communication products, leveraging the full spectrum of available programmatic and researched-based data to create, in coordination with the project team and DFID products that demonstrate the project’s strategy, impact, presence, and preparedness for rapid risk mitigation

Qualifications:​

Officer:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required
  • Minimum two years of experience working in child protection, including developing and implementing psychosocial training and plans
  • Familiarity with best practices of inclusive education for vulnerable children and children with disabilities
  • Strong understanding about the context and the conflict and security situation in Syria; experience in Syria strongly preferred
  • Experience working with different levels of stakeholders, including local actors and local and International NGOs
  • Knowledge of the political, humanitarian, and education sector dynamics within the Syrian context
  • Team player with strong communication and writing skills
  • Fluency in Arabic, with strong speaking and writing skills in English

Manager:

  • Bachelor degree in a relevant field required
  • Minimum three years of progressively responsible experience working in child protection, including developing and implementing psychosocial training and plans
  • Strong understanding of best practices of inclusive education for vulnerable children and children with disabilities
  • Experience mentoring and providing technical oversight to staff preferred
  • Strong understanding about the context and the conflict and security situation in Syria; experience in Syria strongly preferred
  • Experience working with different levels of stakeholders, including local actors and local and International NGOs
  • Knowledge of the political humanitarian and education sector dynamics within the Syrian context
  • Team player with strong communication and writing skills
  • Fluency in Arabic, with strong speaking and writing skills in English
