Turkey: Translator

Chemonics seeks a translator for the Manahel project aimed at improving children's education by enhancing access and quality, addressing psychosocial factors, and building capacity. Manahel is expected to result in 300,000 children (half girls, half boys), including among marginalized groups, gaining access to safe and inclusive education. In addition, the project is expected to result in up to 50 percent of the children achieving basic learning outcomes. Those four outcomes are: Access, Quality, Psychosocial, and Capacity. The translator will translate Manahel documents form English to Arabic and from Arabic to English, and may also be required to serve as an interpreter during meetings with counterparts and beneficiaries. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities include:

• Work closely with program officers and monitoring, evaluating, and learning director; translate Manahel technical documents, including subaward agreements, templates, subawardee reports, payment documentation, and surveys
• Translate operations documentation, particularly for field program advisor recruitment, orientation, and management
• Provide interpretation during meetings with partners, counterparts, and program staff
• When needed, review outsourced translations for accuracy of meaning, grammar, and syntax
• Manage outsourcing translations; prepare the calculations based on the number of characters provided by outsource translators, with additional internal revision of the numbers; and support the procurement specialist in preparing the agreements with outsource translators
• Support Manahel personnel in translation of correspondence, including letters, memoranda, and email communications
• Maintain a project glossary of key terms in the local governance sector
• Manage the filing of all translations in a common project folder
• Travel within Turkey, as needed, to provide the services described above

Qualifications:

• High school certificate plus translation or interpretation training required; university degree preferred
• Fluency speaking, reading, and writing English and Arabic required; additional proficiency in Turkish preferred but not required
• Minimum three years of experience translating or interpreting with donor-funded projects or international NGOs and companies
• Strong computer spreadsheet and word processing skills
• Ability to work in a professional and cordial manner with fellow staff members, visitors, partner institutions including international and local NGOs, governmental entities, support organizations, and the general public
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, prioritize multiple work assignments in an extremely fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, and exercise good, professional judgment that reflects positively on the image and communicates the established program message

• Ability to work in Turkey
