Who are we?

DRC has been operating in the Middle East and North Africa for over a decade, running a combination of livelihood, protection, advocacy and relief projects. DRC has six project offices throughout Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Tunisia/Libya, Turkey, and both a country and regional office in Jordan.

In Turkey DRC focus on protection and the promotion of durable solutions to displaced populations. On the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights, DRC focus on helping to meet immediate subsistence needs, protection, as well as a more long term focus on capacity building.

DRC is currently implementing a project on Livelihood possibilities for refugees within the Turkey context. This project is focusing on enhancing Livelihood information and counselling to beneficiaries including the following components: beneficiaries’ selection, trainings, small business grants (SBG) and Internship/job placement.

Duties

Under the overall supervision of the Community Services Project Manager, the Senior Livelihood Officer will have the following duties and responsibilities:

General Programming & operations

  • Overall management of 1 Protection/ Livelihood Assistants, 4 Livelihood Assistants and 1 translator
  • Develop the strategy for Vocational Training (VT), Internship, Livelihood (LH) and Small Budget Grants (SBG) activities in close coordination with the DRC Community Service Project Manager
  • Analyse at all times the changing needs amongst Syrians and refugee groups to ensure that DRC provides relevant activities.
  • Promote and ensure a strengthened operational link between DRC LH beneficiaries and private institutes, workshops and with the DRC Community Center

Management

  • Ensure a transparent and clear management of all LH and Protection Assistants, Livelihood Assistants and translator (6 people)
  • Promote an open and supportive environment for team members
  • Oversee that division of responsibilities amongst team members is always clear.

Capacity building

  • Support, guide and coach team members on technical and operational issues
  • Ensure that cross-cutting protection concerns are considered for all planned interventions.
  • Facilitate the continuous assessment process and provide support to staff conducting activities

Coordination

  • Be proactively seeking for new partnerships for VT, Internship and LH activities
  • Promote and ensure at all times a pragmatic and efficient dialogue as well as networking with Local Institution, Private Institutes, workshops, National and international NGOs, local Authorities…

Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Work closely with the monitoring team on monitoring and evaluation tools for the LH, Internship and SBG activities in coordination with the Community Service Project Manager

About you

The successful candidate will have strong initiative and be self-motivated, with a strong commitment to teamwork and humanitarian principles. You will understand the rights and protection issues faced by refugees, children and women. You will be flexible, enthusiastic and willing to learn from others; with the ability to multi-task and cope with competing demands under tight deadlines.

You will be a confident leader and have experience managing a team. The successful candidate will be fluent in written and spoken Turkish and English. You will have a bachelor’s degree or higher in international human rights, law, sociology, social work, or other relevant field ; with at least 1-2 years of relevant professional protection experience with a humanitarian aid organization.
Ideally you will also have experience of working with Syrian refugees

We offer

An interesting job with a 5 months contract and possibility of renewal. Salary and conditions are in accordance with DRC Turkey’s Terms of Employment for National Staff. You must be available to work in Hatay (Turkey)
