Brief description of HIH:
Hand in Hand for Aid and Development (HIHFAD) operating as Hand in Hand for Syria, was established as a UK registered charity soon after the start of the Syrian crisis in 2011 by a group of British Syrians in order to deliver humanitarian assistance to civilians impacted by the conflict in Syria. From humble beginnings the charity has grown to become one of the leading humanitarian actors serving Syrian communities both inside Syria and in neighboring countries, employing over 650 staff in Syria, Turkey and the UK.
HIHFAD is implementing multi-sectoral humanitarian assistances, especially strong on Health and protection, as well as multiple projects on WASH, FSL and SNFI in northern Syria.
Purpose of the Position:
· Supervising and monitoring the quality of HIHFAD WASH projects
· Contribute to technical studies and coordination with the team in the field to prepare engineering specifications for projects
· Donor communication in the technical field
· Assess needs for WASH interventions (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene facilities) remotely.
· Ensure the project will satisfy the needs of the beneficiaries and provide oversight of water source construction and sanitation projects remotely to ensure quality
· Ensure that water projects consider requirements of humanitarian work regarding women, children and the most vulnerable people
· When need be, Represent HIHFAD in coordination meetings such as WASH cluster and other cluster meetings
· With a generous and serving spirit perform all other tasks and responsibilities assigned for the benefit of HIHFAD
Job Responsibilities:
· Supervising and design and revise the construction/rehabilitation works component of the project work-plan remotely, and monitor that the implementation of the construction/ rehabilitation activities respects the time-table milestones and deadlines
· Regular monitoring of ongoing construction activities remotely to ensure that all the activities are executing as per design, specifications and work schedule and quality
· Extend all possible technical support to other team members in Syria and contractors
· Preparation of weekly, monthly work plans and construction progress reports
· Verify the work done at site and recommend for the payments to contractor(s)/casual labors etc
· Working in harmony with all other project staff and field team for the effective and efficient day-to-day management of the WASH project in Gaziantep.
· Regular and periodic visits to Syria after securing the security conditions
· Support WASH manager in developing WASH and Early Recovery related project proposals in coordination with other programme departments
· Knowledge of (AutoCAD) drawings, BoQ/Cost Estimates and Tender documents for all WASH infrastructures
Knowledge and Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in either of water supply and sanitation engineering, hydraulic engineering, civil Engineering architect or related field.
Experience:
· At least 4 years’ work experience in humanitarian sector ,and 3 years WASH or similar role
· Experience in remote project management
Skills and Abilities:
· Very good knowledge in Auto CAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
· Very good English written and spoken
· Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability in an ever-changing environment.
· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
· Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
