Turkey: Fundraising Director - Turkey - Istanbul

Role Purpose:

This role aims are expected to lead the fundraising and business development directorate. S/he will report to the Chief Executive and will join an Executive Team of five Directors which has shared responsibility for the success and effective running of SEMA International. The main purpose of this job is to accelerate the growth of fundraising across a diversified range of income streams to achieve long term, sustainable income growth.

-Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement an income generation strategy with ambitious income goals, which aligns with SEMA International overall strategy, vision and values.
  • Lead the development and implementation of fundraising strategy that underpins strategic goals to accelerate income growth in a sustainable manner across a diverse range of income streams and embed a culture of fundraising across SEMA International.
  • Lead the development and implementation of fundraising plan, which includes key activities, areas of required investment, KPIs and milestones as well as the projected growth of fundraising income.
  • Work closely with other Directors to create and engage on-line communities and use these communities as a basis for engaging new supporters and accelerating the growth of community fundraising.
  • Establish a range of new income streams, with a particular emphasis on the application of digital technology e.g. the use of Crowdfunding and other platforms, as the basis for establishing a more diverse range of income.
  • Establish collaborative ways of working with Digital & Marketing team that provide the basis for the Fundraising department to play a significant role in enhancing and improving the public’s understanding of the impact of SEMA International.
  • Work closely with the CEO and be as a remainder of the SMT to provide leadership to the organization as a whole.
  • Feed into the development and implementation of the strategic plans of SEMA International.
  • Map and research opportunities, donors and partners in Gulf, middle East, Turkey and other European countries, including analysis of donor key documents and trends, identification of donor priorities, and SEMA’s International unique selling points.
  • Represent SEMA International in strategic donor, partner and other meetings as required.
  • Ensure updates on SEMA International strategy progress are regularly shared and all steps are well documented.
  • Coordinate the development of key proposals with the grants and program units.
  • Enhance SEMA’s International profile among relevant stakeholders: donors, national and local government partners, international and national NGOs, etc. Work closely with technical units, grants and program teams to identify need for communication and information materials.

-Qualifications, Experiences and Competencies:

  • BA degree required; Master’s degree will be a plus and an advantage.
  • At least five years of experience working in proposal/business development/program management and grants management is required.
  • Familiarity with key institutional donors (USAID, DFID, EU, etc.) strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with others influencing, supporting, following as required in order to achieve fundraising targets.
  • understanding of the political context of major donors and their policies.
  • Ability to represent and reflect the professional image of SEMA International to donors and external parties.
  • Relevant experience in fundraising from institutional and multilateral donors·
  • Experienced in raising funds from Corporations and/or large trusts and foundations non-traditional donors.
  • Effective communicator with strong organizational, time management and analytical skills.
  • Excellent inter-personal, cultural and diplomatic skills; Flexibility to adapt for change requirements.
  • Ability to juggle competing priorities, meet demanding deadlines and work under pressure in unstable security environments.
  • Experience in complex programmatic approaches.
  • Proven analytical skills and the ability to think strategically in relation to fundraising.
  • Problem-solving skills on diverse, non-routine problems
  • Influencing/negotiating skills with colleagues and external contacts (e.g. donors) Willingness and ability to travel.
