Turkey: Deputy Communications Programme Manager - Short-term Project

ARK is a research, conflict transformation and stabilisation consultancy that supports local communities in conflict and fragile areas. We believe that international stability, national security, community safety and individual empowerment are intrinsically linked. ARK partners with local stakeholders to provide insight and develop programmes that are of immediate, tangible assistance to conflict-affected communities.

Many of our staff are drawn from beneficiary communities, hence ARK’s unique commitment and understanding of conflict zones.

This project is initially for four months:

Responsibilities:

  • Implement communications strategy, in line with client objectives.
  • Produce strategic briefs for the creative team and work collaboratively with the Production Manager and creative team on development of products.
  • Coordinate project delivery across multiple locations, including Gaziantep and Amman, Jordan.
  • Coordinate closely with other programme teams to develop products in line with strategic objectives and ensure effect is optimised across all strategy lines.
  • Work closely with the research team to enable timely response to events on the ground, or to alter activities in response to changing attitudes, in line with the agreed strategy and client stipulations.
  • Oversee product tests and use research-based advice to guide edits and distribution strategy.
  • Devise effective distribution strategies for products, and oversee their implementation.
  • Coordinate with ARK’s M&E team to ensure activities are having the desired effect.
  • Provide weekly and quarterly written updates and oral briefings on activities to donors as required.
  • Brief ARK communications capabilities to potential clients and assist with business development as required.
  • Manage allocated budget and team members effectively.

Other tasks and activities as deemed appropriate by line manager.

Essential:

• 3 years + management experience on increasingly complex projects in the conflict/communications sphere

• Programme management experience in complex operating environment, including remote management, preferably in the Levant/wider Middle East

• Proven ability for financial management and basic accounting.

• Excellent English language written and oral skills

• Proficient in use of all MS Office applications

Desirable:

• Arabic linguist highly desirable

• Experience working with Arab nationalities, culture and language

• Experience in security and health and safety

• Risk assessment and security awareness and of implementing appropriate mitigation measures

• Previous experience project managing US or UK government projects.1.

• Competent leader and manager

• Able to work under pressure to tight deadlines for extended periods

• Excellent communicator with ability to plan ahead a tenacious approach to delivering success.

• Mature and reliable

• Good social skills, easy to get on with.
