Tomorrow's Youth Organization is an American non-profit organization that works in disadvantaged areas of the Middle East, enabling children, youth, and parents to realize their potential as healthy, active, and responsible family and community members. Interns will be based at our flagship center in Nablus (Palestine) for the Fall 2015 (September-December 2015) session.

We are recruiting highly qualified and motivated interns with interest and experience in:

· Community development, social work and psychology

· Women’s empowerment through education and economic development

· Early childhood and youth programming.

The primary requirements for the position are:

  • Fluent English speakers. An assessment of the candidate's English language proficiency may be required as part of the selection process;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Maturity, flexibility, initiative, perseverance and a good sense of humor given the challenging nature of daily life in Nablus;
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as perform as a member of a team;
  • Commitment to TYO's non-political, non-religious approach;
  • Creativity and positive energy for making a difference.

TYO interns will work full-time in cooperation with TYO local and international staff. Interns will implement programs for female entrepreneurs, university students, and youth from refugee camps and other marginalized areas of the Nablus community. Each intern will develop and implement their own creative lesson plans through the session as well as informally acting as a liaison between TYO and the local community.

Programs may include workshops and classes on professional competency for university students, English and IT classes for female entrepreneurs, sports, drama and art for youth and children, community English classes and weekend recreational activities. Also, there are opportunities to collaborate with other organizations in Nablus as well as on grant-funded projects, at the TYO Center, in the areas of photography/painting and micro-finance projects for women.

TYO interns will have the chance to grow and develop professionally throughout the program. Interns receive the on-the-ground experience of working in Palestine as well as the chance to work in the non-profit sector with an American NGO. Additionally, interns will develop Monitoring and Evaluation plans for their classes as well as learn professional reporting and blog-writing techniques. They will also develop key professional skills including:

  • communication and intra-personal skills
  • problem-solving
  • time management
  • flexibility
  • teamwork and cooperation

Applicants are required to have significant experience with women’s empowerment, development, childhood and youth programming, international and cross-cultural exposure and maturity.

Graduate students, young professionals, and undergraduates are invited to apply. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in the areas below:

  • arts, drama, dance, photography, sports, IT particularly when used as therapy
  • undergraduate or graduate studies in education, development, gender studies, psychology/social work, journalism and new media, or related fields
  • health and fitness
  • teaching/mentoring (e.g. camp counselor, tutor, etc)
  • English as a Second Language (for all ages)
  • social media (e.g. Flickr, Twitter, WordPress, etc) photography, documentary film production and editing
  • Levantine Arabic speakers (a plus but translators will be provided)

If selected to participate in the internship program, TYO will provide interns with the following:

  • Housing (room and board) at TYO’s expansive facility
  • Multiple educational trips throughout the West Bank
  • Arabic lessons with a private tutor

There is no salary for the internship. Applicants are encouraged to pursue funding options through their universities or communities.
