Role Purpose:
This role aims are expected to lead external and internal relations, media, advocacy, campaigns and other related duties. S/he will report to the Chief Executive and will join an Executive Team of five Directors. The main purpose of this job is to accelerate the development of an integrated communication strategy and work with other similar Humanitarian organizations to advocate and campaign for Syrian crisis issues.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
-Communications (60%)
- Manage a comprehensive and integrated communications strategy that meets the programmatic, administrative, policy and advocacy objectives of SEMA International.
- Update, and coordinate the production and, as needed, the creation of all print materials for SEMA International including brochures, flyers, quarterly e-newsletters, fact sheets, position papers, annual reports to the community, and other written materials.
- Prepare talking points for public relations opportunities including press events/meetings, and community events as directed by the CEO.
- Ensure all external written communication meets quality standards and maintains consistent messaging.
- Supervise attribution guideline process to ensure organizations partnered by SEMA International consistently follow SEMA International logo and name usage.
- Work with other departments to ensure electronic communication means such as, the website and social media are accurate, up-to-date, and carry messaging representative of the mission and vision of SEMA International.
- Coordinate and implement public relations activities.
- Coordinate SEMA International spokespersons and media representatives as needed.
- Participate in special campaign as assigned, assuming responsibility for the end product.
- Overseeing the production and dissemination of SEMA International’s annual report
- Inspiring a highly dynamic communications team and ensure their resources are deployed well across the organization
- Model and mentor colleagues to deliver outstanding public-facing campaigns, through media, social, and other channels, that bring positive change for civilians in conflict
- Assessing learning needs of colleagues and teams and designing and delivering appropriate trainings.
-Advocacy (40%)
- In alignment with the SEMA International Strategic Plan, develop and implement a comprehensive framework for local and international advocacy.
- In alignment with other department to identify priority areas for SEMA International to focus its policy and advocacy efforts locally that will make the greatest impact. From this process, develop a policy and advocacy agenda.
- Implement strategies and activities to carry out the SEMA International advocacy agenda.
- Work with SEMA staff to formulate, coordinate, and integrate the policy and advocacy strategy with the communications strategy.
- Build strategic partnerships with SEMA international members and other organizations that will assist SEMA International in meeting desired advocacy agenda outcomes.
- Develop strategic alliances with key peer organizations, international NGOs, community groups and others.
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies:
- Master’s Degree in related field and five or more years of relevant work experience.
- Strong commitment to our vision, mission, and values.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and work autonomously under pressure of deadlines.
- Superior writing skills with the ability to translate complex issues into a level appropriate for the general population and policymakers.
- Excellent publication skills that include proofreading, copyediting, and knowledge of design/layout.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing with a variety of audiences, including community advocates, service providers, members of the public and local officials. Bilingual in Arabic and English is highly desired.
- Understanding of complex strategic planning in non-profit and government environments.
- Knowledge of Syria crisis and middle (population, issues, challenges, diversity, political climate, policy drivers, etc.)
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), web-based communications, social media.
- People management skills that include diplomacy, fostering a team environment, managing consultants, and managing administrative staff.
- Ability to work with diverse people, communities, and cultures, with an understanding of cultural awareness practices.
- Willingness and ability to travel
