Often, RI is the only organization providing healthcare, education, logistics, energy, capacity building, economic development, sanitation, and many other forms of assistance to these highly vulnerable communities
Position Summary
The communications officer will provide support to the grants unit in delivering vital internal and external information and communication products. The position will support the delivery of a comprehensive media and communication strategy, ensuring smooth flow of information, high quality case studies to showcase Relief International’s work in Northwest Syria. The position will also supported the grants team ensure that external messaging, branding and image is consistent.
KEY Areas of Accountability
- Monitor, collect and analyze information pertaining to the humanitarian events and response efforts and develop internal and external information products.
- Produce and support development of fact sheets, talking points, memos, power point presentations, briefing materials etc.
- Produce accurate, clear and consistent information and communication outputs relating to organization’s programs – including key messages, blogs, and donor’s communications requirements.
- Support development of knowledge products to capture learnings from management and implementation of grants in the form of case studies, success stories, etc.
- Support the information and communication flows on the organization’s work and image to a variety of internal and external stakeholders
- Produce and update overall Hub’s program implementation profile.
- Facilitate photograph and film commissions. Liaise closely with photography/film staff within Relief Intentional to ensure coordination of photography/film commissions are managed appropriately on the ground and that assets are shared quickly and stored appropriately.
Information and Knowledge Management:
- Enable institutional memory within the office through development and maintenance of record keeping of reports, proposals and other material developed for reporting and fundraising.
- Support institutional learning by making the best use of institutional knowledge, and support use of these learnings in future program development and implementation.
Other responsibilities:
- Assist with the organization of grant opening, closing, and monthly meetings, take meeting minutes.
- Maintain a database of grant documents and do regular file audits to ensure that filing is comprehensive and up-to-date;
- Provide day-to-day administrative support to the Grants Unit and perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor;
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Masters/Graduate degree in Journalism, communication and media sciences, social sciences, or related field preferred;
- Fluent writing skills in English and ability to proofread and edit documents;
- Excellent listening skills in English and ability to take detailed meeting minutes and capture critical discussions and action points;
- At least two years of work experience in relief or development programs, preferably with an international non-governmental organization;
- Excellent critical thinking skills and ability to exercise good judgment and solve problems quickly and effectively;
- Strong inter-personal communication skills and ability to work well in a team and in a multi-cultural setting;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Adobe, and other designing softwares
- Flexibility, optimism, and a sense of humor are assets and highly valued.
