Location: Gaziantep, Turkey

Reports to: Protection Coordinator

Duration: From May until September 2020, renewable depending on funds availability

Often, RI is the only organization providing healthcare, education, logistics, energy, capacity building, economic development, sanitation, and many other forms of assistance to these highly vulnerable communities.

Position Summary:

Under supervision of the Protection Coordinator, the Protection officer will contribute to the daily planning and implementation of activities for RI GBV program in addition to ensuring protection mainstreaming in all RI programs implemented in North West Syria.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under the supervision and direction of the Protection Coordinator, support the planning and implementation of the expanded protection programme by reviewing project documents, produce detailed weekly implementation plans in collaboration with field teams, update procurement plans and support the revision of activity budget planning and monitoring
  • Based on inputs from Senior Protection Programme Officers inside Syria, compile and submit timely weekly activity reports and monthly progress reports to the protection coordinator
  • Support the communication with other departments such as Operations, HR and M&E to ensure that programme activities are implemented in line with work plan and donor requirements
  • Support the planning and implementation of the main program activities and ensure expected targets and deliverables are reached according to workplans; flag to the Protection Coordinator any relevant issues and delays so that they can be timely addressed
  • Contribute to the GBV team's information management such as: provide disaggregated data on populations of concern and their problems; researches, collects and disseminates relevant protection information and good practices to enhance protection delivery and provide technical advice if necessary
  • Support the implementation of all relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all GBV activities
  • Under the technical supervision of the Protection Coordinator and the Protection Program Manager based in Amman, ensure Protection Mainstreaming across all RI programs in North West Syria, including the Health programs
  • Support the organization and implementation of trainings to RI health facilities staff members on protection principles, protection mainstreaming, and accountability to affected populations, PSEA and other relevant topics. Identify any additional training topics and ensure that refresher trainings are carried out on a regular basis
  • Any other duties related to the nature of the job as identified by the Protection Coordinator

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in implementing gender-based violence and protection mainstreaming with
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and email/internet software.
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, or other appropriate fields; or field equivalent experience
  • Well-developed organizational skills
  • Strong initiative and self-motivation, with a commitment to teamwork
  • Flexible, enthusiastic and willingness to learn from others
  • Ability to multi-task and cope with competing demands under tight deadlines
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment
  • Fluency in Arabic and Very Good spoken/written English
