RET International in Turkey is pleased to announce an opening for the position of

ENGLISH TEACHER

Duty Station:** Şanlıurfa, Turkey

Application closing date:** 28.02.2016

Contract length: 6 months

Background information:

RET International, www.theRET.org, headquartered in Geneva, with offices around the world, was founded in December 2000 by Mrs Sadako Ogata, then United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, in response to a crying but barely addressed need for greater access to and quality of post-primary education for refugees, returnees and the internally displaced. RET International is an independent, impartial, non-partisan organisation and with no religious or political affiliation. RET International has strategic alliances with UNHCR, UNESCO – IBE, etc. RET International has a wealth of experience working with adolescents and youth in displaced situation in Africa, Asia and Latin America. RET International is registered in Turkey since February 2014.

Job Description:

Job Overview/Summary:

The main responsibility of the English Teacher is to help participants understand the requirements of Basic English knowledge. Main duties will range from the preparation of course work, planning of classes and grading of work handed in. On top of this the teacher will also have to arrange any extra-curricular activities and set targets for the students’ beneficiaries. The position is based in Şanlıurfa

Major Responsibilities:

· Preparation of classes based on the weekly schedule.

· Follow and record student beneficiaries’ attendance in coordination with the Center Admin Assistant.

· Organizing and delivering classroom lectures to student beneficiaries while ensuring participatory methods.

· Support the Admin Assistant for any required information for the English courses.

· Advising beneficiaries on career issues.

· Evaluating beneficiaries’ class work and assignments.

· Preparing classroom and coursework materials, homework assignments, and handouts.

· Recording and maintaining accurate student attendance records and grades.

· Classroom management.

· Developing English lesson plans in line with the National Curriculum.

· Maintaining discipline in the classroom.

· Creating a vibrant teaching atmosphere.

· To use continuous improvement process and tools to ensure interactive classroom sessions.

· To draft reports and presentations on the improvement of student progress when required.

· To undertake any other related duties as requested by the Education Officer and Center Manager.

Key Working Relationships:

Position Reports to: Education Officer

Indirect Reporting: Center Manager

Job Requirements:

· Candidate who can teach both General English and TOEFL programs will be preferable.

· Minimum 1-2 year(s) practice as a teacher at courses

· Experience in teaching either TOEFL or English

· Knowledge of current trends and developments in language teaching methodology

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

· Pedagogical ability

· Good communication, people skills, energy and ability to work in a team

· Turkish residency required
