About SENED
SENED is an independent non-governmental and non-profit humanitarian organization established in 2013, and registered in Turkey (27-15-175). SENED was established by a group of humanitarian and social activists in responding to the Syrians suffering since 2011. SENED has specialized in working with and supporting people with disabilities since 2015 due to the realization of the tremendous tragedy that people with disabilities live in Syria through periodic visits to their places. SENED currently work mainly in protection, education and livelihood.

Job Purpose
Based in Gaziantep, the Sign Language Facilitator reports to the Protection Coordinator.
S/He will be responsible for:
o Facilitating sign language courses to train beneficiaries about how to communicate by using Turkish sign language
Key Activities/Tasks/Duties
o Training the beneficiaries to practice the spoken Turkish language into sign language and vice versa to facilitate communication with deaf people in public life.
o Translating the written materials for the deaf in case they need it to facilitate their access to information and support their use of it.
o Good preparation for the material to be practiced.
o Constant communication with deaf people and the ability to learn about their community and culture.
o Adhere to the ethics of the sign language training.
o Build trusting relationships with beneficiaries.
o Ensure the activities and sessions are following safe learning practices at all times.
o Follow up on the beneficiaries’ wellbeing, attendance and specific needs.
o Ensure that all data collected is entered and reported in a timely manner (monthly).
o Work in a team spirit with other specialists to facilitate communication of the deaf with community members to create a link between the deaf people and the community of listeners to transfer the messages exchanged between the two parties in various fields.
o Constant pursuit of self-development through scientific conferences and training courses and access to the latest research in the field of sign language and the world of deaf people.
o Carrying out training tasks and qualifying community members to learn sign language.
o Communication with the deaf community and sign language indicators in order to agree on new signs that include modern terminology in all fields.
o Learn the best international practices in the field of sign language for the deaf
o Keep up with the terminology used by deaf people in the local environment.
o See the specialized vocabulary in the field in which he works in order to convert it into indicative vocabulary in agreement with the deaf community
o Collaborate closely with MEAL team to monitor activities with existing tools and use sign language courses selection criteria effectively.
o Respect and apply all principles of PSEA, and demonstrate high commitment to report any sexual exploitation and sexual abuse
o Performing any other duties assigned to him/her by the immediate superior
Required Qualifications (Education/Languages/Work Experience):
Essential
§ Bachelor Degree in education, sociology, psychology or any other relevant field by having pedagogical formation
§ Sign Language Instructor and Interpreter Training Course Completion Certificate
§ Advanced skills in the Turkish language.
§ Intermediate skills in the Arabic language
§ Minimum of 6 months of proven experience in a similar position.
Desirable
§ Verified experience in humanitarian work and principles.
§ Experience in working with children with disabilities.
IT and Equipment
§ Elementary proficiency with Microsoft package.
