Provide psychiatric support to patients according to IMC principles and protocols in order to improve the patients’ mental health.
Specific Duties
Ethics
- Follow all ethical standards in his/her work with individuals, families and communities and maintain a personal living standard that serves as a positive role model.
- Maintain confidentiality of all clients.
- Provide treatment in the best interest of each client.
General Duties for Mental health Program
- Providing psychiatric care for Syrian clients in both IDP camps and urban settings inside Syria.
- Work regularly at duty site to serve the beneficiaries 5 days per week from 9am to 5pm.
- Use of medications appropriately when necessary.
- Participate in regular case management team meetings for interdisciplinary care of patients.
- Accept referrals from the case management team, from other NGOs, directly from the camps and from IMC’ primary health care doctors.
- Attend weekly mental health training sessions provided by the expatriate psychiatrist.
- Deliver mental health training to the case management team and primary health care doctors.
- Provide clinical supervision to primary health care physicians during assessment of mental health cases
- Become a trainer for primary health care physicians and the case management team.
- Facilitate the smooth operations of the mental health clinic by providing appropriate technical and administrative support to the team.
Reporting
- Report directly on all tasks and responsibilities to direct supervisor.
- Keep a daily record of all patients seen using Clinical Audit Sheet.
- Provide a weekly report of number of cases seen and diagnosis by age and gender as well as a source of referral using spreadsheets and collection tools provided
- Keep a record of attendance for any training provided.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum medical degree; preferably with a Master’s in Psychiatry
Must have excellent communications skills, both oral and written
Must have excellent self-motivation skills
Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently
Extremely flexible, and have the ability to cope with stressful situations and frustrations
Ability to relate to and motivate local staff effectively
Creativity and the ability to work with limited resources
Excellent decision making skills.
Must work independently under difficult conditions
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret, technical and non-technical English language documents and manuals.
Ability to write reports, and manuals.
