Independent Doctors Association (IDA) is seeking a Communication Officer to integrate the Media and Advocacy team in IDA’s Gaziantep office. The Media and Advocacy team produces stories from the field, designs the visual identity of the organization and handles all communication to the media about IDA’s humanitarian medical work. It also advocates on behalf of protection of Syrian medical staff and civilians to international stakeholders.
The Communication Officer will be primarily responsible for supporting the Media and Advocacy Manager in implementing the communications policy, strategy and guidelines.
Competency
· Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communication, Visual Arts, Graphic Design.
· Firm adherence to journalistic ethics and practices in a conflict situation and/or willing to undergo a training.
· Excellent newsgathering, interviewing and documentation skills.
· Excellent graphic design skills and knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign.
· Ability to manage and input data into IDA’s WordPress website and social media accounts.
· Bilingual (Arabic and English), excellent written skills in both.
· Ability to work well in a team environment.
· High level of integrity and sense of initiative.
· Strong interest in improving the humanitarian and medical situation in Syria through advocacy.
Primary responsibilities
- Be in frequent contact with the Field Managers in Syria to collect latest updates about IDA’s projects in Syria to produce and publish engaging stories about IDA’s work.
- Closely follow the conflict situation and humanitarian needs on the ground to inform IDA’s advocacy strategy.
- Assisting IDA’s graphic designer in planning and designing IDA’s visual identity (brochures, annual reports, infographics, posters).
- Publish updates on IDA’s social media accounts in Arabic and English (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram).
- Liaise with IDA’s photographers in Syria and ensure the execution of their assignments.
- Co-author IDA’s planned publications such as reports, online advocacy campaigns, press releases, photo captions, field stories.
- Translate IDA’s website from English into Arabic.
- Regularly update the website. %(3϶O
