The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs

Position: Youth Education Facilitator (Life skills/Livelihoods Trainer) Nationals only/Ankara

Position level: Project Assistant

Reports to: Youth education officer

Duty station: Ankara

Travel: 20% around Turkey

Duration of contract: 8 months

1. Role and responsibilities

Act as the Youth Education Facilitator for life skills educational training.

Under the supervision and guidance of the Youth Education Officer, implement the Youth Education activities, and assist the Youth Education Officer in designing and development the project’s curriculum and activities.

Generic responsibilities

  • Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
  • Assist with the implementation of the support function portfolio according to plan of action
  • Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
  • Ensure proper filing of documents
  • Promote and share ideas for improvement of the support function

Specific responsibilities

  • Provide life skills trainings and capacity building activities to the livelihoods project’s participants, in compliance with the youth educational curriculum / ensure the activities are delivered to all the livelihoods project’s participants
  • Provide feedback to the Curriculum Development Coordinator in the design of the youth educational curriculum and materials, which will be tailored to the Turkish context, to address the needs of NRC’s current caseload
  • Assist to amend and develop life and business skills curricula according to youth needs
  • Maintain a database of outputs/activities as well as beneficiaries/trainees reached in project, with regular follow ups on the participants’ attendance to all the project activities and report any drop out cases accordingly
  • Develop monthly activity plans with the assigned team
  • Prepare periodic internal activity reports
  • Organize and arranges the training and activities venues and supply the needed training materials and tools, in coordination with the support department
  • Conduct outreach and community sensitization activities as well as support to establish a close network with civil society and other organization working with refugees in Ankara
  • Inform programme development at site level, with feedback from community staff and students.
  • Ensure safety and dignity of beneficiaries is respected; report any abuses
  • Any other task relevant to the position as requested by the line manager.

2. Critical interfaces

By interfaces, NRC means processes and projects that are interlinked with other departments/units or persons. Relevant interfaces for this position are:

  • Relevant core competency implementation staff
  • Support teams, Finance, HR, Admin and Logistics
  • Vocational Training service providers’ trainers
  • Communications staff
  • Protection staff
  • M&E department

3. Competencies

Competencies are important in order for the employee and the organization to deliver desired results. They are relevant for all staff and are divided into the following two categories:

Professional competencies

Generic professional competencies:

  • Experience from working as a Project Assistant in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Some knowledge of English

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience:

College/diploma degree or/and advance training course in education, social work, sociology, social sciences, development studies or other related field; or a combination of field experience and relevant secondary education diploma;

  • Experience as trainer of young beneficiaries (women and men aged 18 to 29) is preferred
  • At least 1-year relevant professional experience with a humanitarian aid organization is preferred;
  • Excellent communication (spoken and written) skills in Arabic is essential; good written and spoken English; working knowledge of Turkish is required
  • Previous experience in working with Syrian refugees is desirable;
  • Experience in outreach to refugee community, and has contacts with refugee community representatives in the target area(s)
  • Good level of computer literacy (MS Office package)
  • Understanding of cross-cutting issues, such as gender, protection, youth and environment
  • Understanding of humanitarian/civil society issues in Turkey
