Director’s Assistant Intern

Position Code: DA- 301

Purpose: To assist director in day-to-day duties and directorial aspects of running the organisation.

Responsible to: Director

Working with: All departments

Location: Gaziantep, Turkey

Period: 3-6 months

Expenses: $300/month (To be used for monthly accommodation rental OR living expenses – sufficient for one month for either)

About the organization

Trust Consultancy and Development is an independent research and capacity development consultancy based in Turkey, providing a range of services to the whole of the MENA region. Our dedicated team aspires to provide a range of expert services to international and local NGOs, businesses, donors and third parties with vested interests in different aspects of development and humanitarian action.

Our work addresses the growing demand for a range of third party research and capacity building services and our clients include Save the Children, People in Need, World Vision, Norwegian Refugee Council and Samaritan’s Purse. Currently, we are working in Syria, Turkey and Iraq. Our head office is in Gaziantep, Turkey with satellite field research bases in Syria and capacity development services offered in Iraq.

This particular role offers the opportunity to understand the workings of such an organization and gain the insight and guidance of an experienced and successful mentor. Your job role will offer you the opportunity to gain experience working with some of the biggest NGOs and to learn about how these relationships are developed, handled and maintained. As your mentor is one of the cofounders, you will gain valuable insight into the process of starting your own organisation and helping it grow. As a capacity development organization, we also offer the opportunity for you to take part in training programs underway during your internship. At the end of your internship, there may be opportunities to further develop with us as we grow. Alternatively, our connections are wide-reaching and our interns will have access to this network via Trust. We have helped several past interns secure jobs with other organisations. We will provide a full review at the end of your internship and a letter of recommendation.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Research potential new assignments for Trust in the sector

  • Work on establishing new connections with international partners

  • Research potential new clients

  • Research new training approaches and materials

  • Participate in proposal writing

  • Participate in process of primary research production and collection – in some cases including Key Informant Interviews and Focus Group Discussions

  • Proof reading final reports and documents

  • Attending and writing minutes of meeting with external stakeholders (partners, clients…etc.)

  • Manage a Monitoring and Evaluation Facebook group

  • Facilitate the training department with events and planning

The candidate should:

  • Hold a University Degree in a relevant field, Preferably MA qualified or MA student in Development, Social Sciences or other relevant field

  • Demonstrate an understanding of development/ humanitarian sector

  • Speak fluent English

  • Some knowledge of Arabic, Kurdish or French an asset (specifically written, but not mandatory)

  • Strong writing and editing skills

  • Strong research skills

  • Have strong analytical and organizational skills

  • Able to work in a multi-cultural environment

  • Good interpersonal skills and able to work well in a team

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programmes
