Role Purpose

He/she is responsible for networking, representation and advocacy activities by developing the analysis of context and, humanitarian situation and defining and implementing advocacy and network strategies, under the direct management of the country director, and in line with internal plans, policies and values, in order to improve contextual understanding, adapt lobbying activities and communication that improves access, acceptance, visibility, reputation, influence and ability to operate of the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Defining, establishing, implementing and coordinating network and advocacy activities (with the supervisors), drafting advocacy strategies addressing priorities in relation to missions’ needs and ensuring that networking and advocacy are included in plans.
  • Identify main client groups and audiences and determine the best way to reach them.
  • Devise advertising and promotion programs.
  • Monitor and compile regular updates on social civil society, governmental and humanitarian aid system dynamics to increase the leverage capacity and the impact of lobbying in line with annual plans and advocacy objectives.
  • Draft situation reports, advocacy narratives, lobbying points and internal/external reports identified and required, guaranteeing consistency of analysis, critical reflection, contextual understanding and public or private communications.
  • Advises on perception related to positioning with a view on increasing reputation, visibility and ensuring good acceptance for the organization’s projects/presence.
  • Dissemination of information for operational and advocacy purposes.
  • Support networking by leading or participating to developing relationships, representation duties, under the request and coordination of the Line Manager, with national authorities, civil society, professional groups, think tanks and academics/universities.
  • On request and on project or priority basis and beyond the functional relation and interact with the international advocacy network to provide updated contextualized medical-humanitarian content (country-level information) and disseminate and lobby for elements identified as international priorities.
  • Define, draft and review advocacy messages and targeting, including communications and dissemination strategies, to raise awareness of organizational priorities.
  • Follow up and analysis of the context, and medical-humanitarian issues, in order to provide reliable information for operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Undertake actor mapping and stakeholders’ analysis while providing guidance / support for the management of relations with local authorities, and strategic advice to for national-level organizational positioning.
  • Link with field teams to develop networking, advocacy and/or communications initiatives.
  • Facilitate and take part in discussions, trainings, briefings, on the context, humanitarian principles, international humanitarian law, medical ethics, and advocacy activities/strategies to raise awareness of staff on these topics.
  • Write press releases and prepare information for the media in additional to develop advertising and marketing communications material and prepare articles for organization newsletters.
  • Any other tasks assigned by the line manager.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Must be a confident communicator and presenter.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Have a full understanding of media needs and media relationships.
  • Be proactive, reliable, responsible and accurate with an attention to detail.
  • Possess the ability to keep information confidential.
  • Tactical understanding of all primary social media platforms.
  • Ability to work in high-stress environments, often for long hours
  • Self-motivated with a positive and professional approach to management.
  • At least five years of experience in similar field.
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, English, Communications or Marketing with a PR or Advertising concentration.
  • Excellent command of English and Turkish languages is essential.
