TERMS OF REFERENCE
UNRWA is a United Nations agency established by the General Assembly in 1949 and is mandated to provide assistance and protection to a population of some 5 million registered Palestine refugees. Its mission is to help Palestine refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, West Bank and the Gaza Strip to achieve their full potential in human development, pending a just solution to their plight. UNRWA’s services encompass education, health care, relief and social services, camp infrastructure and improvement, microfinance and emergency assistance. UNRWA is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions.
Consultancy - Psychosocial and Training Consultant, Gaza
BACKGROUND
UNRWA Community Mental Health Programme (CMHP) in Gaza is seeking a consultant to develop a group intervention for school children in grades 1-3 attending UNRWA schools. The consultant will work closely with the CMHP manager and staff to develop an intervention manual and training material based on child-friendly practices to support targeted children experiencing emotional and behavioral difficulties. The intervention manual and training should be complementary to other CMHP school interventions.
Description of Duties and ResponsibilitieS
· Working closely with CMHP staff, develop a group-based intervention to support children in grades 1-3 experiencing emotional and behavioural difficulties. The intervention should be based on child-friendly practices such as storytelling and structured play activities;
· Draft an accompanying manual with which clearly describes the intervention as well as instructions and learning objectives for each group session and corresponding activities;
· Develop and implement a training of trainers (ToT) package in order that CMHP may roll out the intervention using its existing supervision team;
Essential Qualifications and Experience
· An advanced university degree from an accredited educational institution in a relevant field;
· A minimum of six years of relevant professional experience in developing and training of MHPSS materials with a specific focus on young children;
· Fluency in spoken and written English.
Competencies
· Knowledge of children’s development and child-centred approaches in supporting for children and families;
· Demonstrated expertise developing evidence-based guidelines and training, with previous experience in developing group psychosocial support packages for counsellors in schools settings;
· Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, ability to work within different cultural environments and teams;
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills in a multi-cultural setting;
· Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
Desirable Qualifications
● Previous experience with UNRWA or other UN Agencies;
● Fluency in spoken and written Arabic;
● Previous experience working in the Middle East.
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
· The duration of the consultancy is up to 2 months;
· The expected start date will be the beginning of January, 2018.
