Turkey: PROTECTION COORDINATOR- SYRIAN NATIONALS ONLY

Position: Protection Coordinator (National Staff)

Location: Gaziantep, with regular trips in Turkey and in Syria if situation allows

Reports to: Program Director

Duration: Contingent on funding

Relief International is registered NGO in Turkey and is based in Gaziantep to build capacities of Syrian communities to respond their needs in health, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), and education.

Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of Program Director, the Protection Coordinator shall make sure that all RI Turkey is mainstreaming protection into all activities, projects and programs. In addition, he/she shall make sure that protection is taken into consideration both at the proposal and the implementation process in RI activities in Turkey and Syria.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

Protection mainstreaming

· Provide strategic direction and vision to the RI’s Protection programming and implementing both in Turkey and Syria

· Ensure that all interventions are in compliance with the RI’s protection mainstreaming framework, international law and protection standards and national policies.

· Oversee implementation of the RI protection mainstreaming ensuring accurate reporting in accordance with RI and donor regulations.

· Ensure that protection monitoring and evaluation systems are effectively designed and integrated into all stages of the programs.

· Provide continuous support to and ensure targeted capacity building of staff.

· Participate in cross-departmental collaboration and coordination in order to ensure that linkages between programs are made and programs gain from protection best practice; in particular with regular contact and coordination with Coordinators and Managers in Education, Health and Programs

New business development

· Develop the Protection sector strategy for RI Turkey in close collaboration with CD, other protection sector staff, and technical Working Groups.

· Identify opportunities for, design and develop concept notes and proposals for further protection programming

· Develop and/or input into protection assessments and protection reporting analysis for the purpose of program development

· Provide Protection input on proposals from other sectors to ensure protection is mainstreamed across RI programming

Representation, coordination and advocacy

· Represent the RI in high level and strategic meetings involving protection actors such as protection working group meetings and bi-lateral meetings.

· Regularly coordinate with internal program and operational stakeholders, the Protection/Rule of Law Technical Advisors, Women’s Protection and Empowerment, Children’s Protection, Education and other RI colleagues.

· In collaboration with the CD and regional advocacy team, ensure that the protection program delivers on advocacy goals as articulated in the country wide advocacy strategy.

Qualifications & Requirements:

· Minimum requirement is a Bachelor’s degree in Law, Human Rights or a related field- Master’s degree preferred. Extensive protection-related work experience may substitute for advanced degree;

· 2-5 years’ experience implementing protection programming including experience in emergency or post-conflict project management;

· Previous INGO experience mandatory;

· Demonstrated experience using international human rights standards in protection programming;

· Strong strategic and analytical thinking and proposal writing experience required;

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, flexibility, ability to improvise, team player;

· Fluency in English speaking and writing required. Arabic strongly preferred. Turkish will be an asset;

· Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, stressful environment;

· Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, tasks efficiently;

· Must be capable of working both individually and as part of a team.
