Syria Relief is a Non-Governmental Organization based in UK with country offices located in Turkey, Iraq and Jordan. Syria Relief was established in 2011 in response to the beginning of the Syrian crisis.
We directly aid civilians and displaced communities while providing the tools and training to help them become self-sufficient.
1. Purpose
Syria Relief is seeking for an experienced consultant to support the development of Syria Relief strategic plan. The overall aim of this consultancy is to develop a well-designed strategic plan that match with the development of the organization for the coming three years (2019 till 2021).
2. Scope of Work/ Assignment & Deliverables needed:
Before the workshop-online:
Review the vision and mission based on Syria Relief mandate
Review the organizational capacity assessment, the previous strategic plan and programs overview of Syria Relief
Meet with Syria Relief key managers to ensure that the required info is understood
Meet with Syria Relief CD/CEO to plan for the workshop
During the workshop:
Lead and provide expert input on the overall workshop sessions.
To facilitate the drafting of workshop agenda/program of events with various stakeholders to ensure the accomplishment of the overall objectives.
To organize the workshop to promote maximum participation from participants
To provide materials as needed in various contexts including breakouts, group session and ensure timely completion of activities and events.
To support and advise presenters on how to maximize active engagement of the group in discussion, raising issues, making recommendations and drawing conclusions.
To continuously gauge and solicit feedback from participants formally and informally.
To assist in detailed feedback and edits draft report on the workshop, including lesson learnt and outputs.
To provide advice and perform other task as required to support the workshop.
After the workshop-online:
Draft Syria Relief strategic plan based upon the results from the workshop and meetings
Review the draft with Syria Relief key managers
Finalize the strategic plan for Syria Relief
3. Reporting:
The consultant will report directly to Syria Relief Country Director and CEO.
4. Work Schedule:
The duration of the contract shall be 30 working days (3 days should be in Turkey and the remaining as online). The consultant is expected to work online as required to complete the tasks outlined in these terms of reference.
5. Type of Supervision and support to be provided:
Syria Relief Turkey CD, whom based in Antakya, shall provide overall supervision and facilitation of meetings and required information sharing during the consultancy period. Syria Relief will provide operational assistance and facilitate logistic support whilst the consultant is in country. As direct supervision, the CD, will oversee general support, the progress of the consultancy and receipt of final deliverables.
6. Consultant’s work plan:
The consultant is expected to develop a detailed work plan within the first two days of the assignment then review it with Syria Relief.
7. Qualifications & Experience Required:
· Master’s degree in management, organizational development or a related field with more than five years of relevant professional experience.
· Experience working with the humanitarian field in International NGOs within war crisis.
· Demonstration of experience of the provider in similar product development and/or contexts.
· Considerable experience in developing strategic plans for humanitarian contexts.
· Excellent communication and technical writing skills in English
· Excellent training and facilitation skills and strong experience in leading workshops.
· Highly motivated and experienced in coordinating workshops
· Ability to work independently and remotely with little supervision.
· Excellent organizational and time management skills
· Excellent team work and participatory process skills
