We are looking for highly qualifiedProtection Manager for our Protection Program in Hatay, Turkey.

About the Job

Provide day to day leadership, management and technical support to the protection program in the designated areas of operation under the supervision of Area Managers, and contribute to the overall quality of the protection program through contribution to project development, practical implementation adaptations and monitoring.

Sector responsibilities: Advocacy for the rights of displaced people in their context of displacement, child protection initiatives, individual protection assistance based on vulnerability, legal aid, sexual and gender-based violence prevention, registration services for refugees, monitoring of rights and rights awareness-raising, facilitation of return and repatriation processes.

This role has an area focus and ensures compliance to DRC procedures and guidelines within the area of responsibility. The role contributes to the development of sector country strategies, which are translated into action plans and day-to-day tasks. The role provides support and technical guidance to area operations while overseeing area activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

People management

  • Lead and manage the protection sector team in the area of intervention (including people planning, performance, well-being, safety, and development)
  • Ensure on-going staff capacity building through mentorship, coaching and daily support.

    Technical management

  • Identify priorities and technically assist the project;

  • Ensure coordination and mainstreaming with other departments (Livelihoods, M&E, procurement, finance)

  • Support CBOs/NGOs in partnership arrangements with DRC;

  • Ensure planning, and timely implementation of activities as agreed with donors, ensuring adherence to DRC policies and procedures

  • Ensure on time and on target implementation of all protection projects in the geographical area of responsibility.

Coordination and Representation

  • Serve as a Liaison between DRC and relevant stakeholders on protection related programming in relevant areas;
  • Represent DRC at protection working groups and tasks forces as needed;
  • Ensure collaboration between the DRC projects and other stakeholders in area of operation;
  • In consultation with Country Protection Program Coordinator, develop programmatic collaborations and partnerships with relevant local organizations and institutions.
  • Facilitate donor field-visits
  • Share relevant project information with stakeholders

Monitoring, reporting and project development

  • Facilitate the qualitative and quantitative monitoring of protection projects through post-assistance visits, regular reporting and other relevant monitoring tools;
  • Ensure that all data and supporting project’s document are accurate and compliant with protection standards.
  • Work with grants and reporting team to ensure timely accurate reporting as needed;
  • Assist in the development of program monitoring tools;
  • Develop work-plans to ensure timely delivery of expected outputs and outcomes;
  • Monitor financial spending and provide budget forecasts;
  • Work closely with Area Manager, country technical lead and the Grants unit to develop quality proposals, concept notes and budget;
  • Develop and undertake needs assessments to inform program design and strategic direction. Conduct frequent rapid needs assessment of the situation in the event of emergency in collaboration with other stakeholders to address related problems

    As Manager the post-holder is responsible for the following:

• Accountable for achieving DRC’s strategic goals and objectives within the area of responsibility

• Accountable for making significant decisions on what the unit does: its purpose, functions and role, and for making commitments and decisions that require the expenditure of significant unit resources.

• Accountable for people management of direct reports, generally at least 3 employees. This includes initiating/recommending hiring & firing, objective setting, probation, performance appraisal, development of staff, managing performance, including poor performance, etc.

• Accountable for making sound decisions based on DRC policies, MOPs, standards, advice of country technical lead and in close consultation with area manager

About you

To be successful in this role, you must have Master's degree (political science, international development, human rights or humanitarian affairs)

Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required qualifications

  1. Minimum 5 years of practical experience in sector area working for an INGO including minimum 2 years managing projects
  2. At least 3 years' experience with people management
  3. Documented skills in project planning and design, drafting, calculation and technical writing
  4. Excellent skill in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  5. Experience in project development
  6. Demonstrated experience in project implementation, budget monitoring and report writing

  7. Experience working with national partners, local/government authorities, and UN organisations

  8. Full professional proficiency in English and Turkish, Arabic is an asset

We offer

DRC will offer the successful applicant a 7 months’ contract, renewable dependent on both funding and performance. You must be available to start work from 01 May 2019 and be willing and able to work in Hatay.

This position is on Employment band:M-F2

We offer a fair compensation package depending on your qualification and experiences. DRC Turkey is income tax exempted.
