Background about SNL: The Syrian Networks League

A league of coordinating bodies of Syrian civil society organizations united through a transparent coordination mechanism in a credible pluralistic framework that aims to mobilize the energies of civil coordinating bodies to ensure the creative expression of Syrian civil society aspirations and develop their initiatives in support of their causes and build their capacities to promote comprehensive development.

The Syrian networks league includes six coordinating bodies. These coordinating bodies include 135 organizations working in the humanitarian and civil sectors in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Turkey.

Job Overview:

The Advocacy Officer (AO) will work closely with the SNL Coordinator to design, plan, implement, monitor, evaluate and analyze the advocacy strategy and work plan. approved by SNL General Assembly and Steering Committee.

The Advocacy Officer (AO) will work closely with Advocacy workgroup members, co-chair meetings and encourage active engagement of SNL members in advocacy initiatives.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Supporting the SNL Coordinator, in the design and implementation of advocacy strategies for Syria humanitarian response, including agreed on humanitarian and human rights issues.
  2. Work with the SNL Coordinator, SNL members and partners identify policy makers to influence, in-country, regionally, and internationally.
  3. Work with the SNL Coordinator in developing key messages for different stakeholder extending SNL outreach to different audiences.
  4. Work with the SNL Coordinator in developing media/advocacy campaigns, draft and disseminate newsletters, press releases in English and Arabic.
  5. Enhancing and expanding SNL outreach and communication channels with the deferent stakeholders (UN Agencies, INGOs, SNGOs, CSOs, Networks, Governments, donors, media, and officials … etc.).
  6. Support in developing and maintaining active working relationships with policy and advocacy colleagues in SNL partner organizations and other Syrian and International NGOs, and help in exploring formal or semi-formal partnership opportunities with policy and research institutions.
  7. Track humanitarian community wide reports, policy briefs, published advocacy letters and statements and other related materials, screening them and provide the SNL Coordinator with weekly briefs.
  8. Develops appropriate visibility materials including written stories, video, web, etc.
  9. Prepare briefing papers and talking points as required, keeps accurate records of media activities, and produces reports on SNL.
  10. Creating content for dissemination using various channels and media, such as social media, and blogs on websites. and The ability to work on media programs in a very good way.
  11. Communicate with media and act as SNL spokesperson as necessary (as assigned when necessary).
  12. Represent the SNL in meetings, committees and fora as requested.
  13. Attend all relevant internal meetings and take minutes when necessary.
  14. Assists in the preparation, writing and editing of different reports
  15. Follow up on signature of advocacy letters and initiatives from SNL members and partners.
  16. Create online and offline advocacy archive for SNL efforts.
  17. Manage SNL Website and Social Media accounts.
  18. Developing and maintaining contact list of all actors in the Syrian crises as possible, including donors, UN representatives, NGOs and coordination bodies.
  19. Facilitate media interviews for SNL Coordinator or SNL SC members.
  20. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  1. At least a University degree, Programs/journalism / conflict-related studies, or any other relevant field of study.
  2. 3-4 years of experience influencing policy makers in the Syrian context-related issues, working in Syria/region humanitarian response and/or foreign policy issues.
  3. Self-Motivated and Team Player.
  4. Demonstrated experience in the Syria humanitarian context.
  5. Promote and model a positive, professional, and respectful office culture.
  6. Proficient in the use of computer applications related to the tasks is essential.
  7. Ability to work in a team and to sometimes tight deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment.
  8. Ability to travel.
  9. Strong communication and writing skills.
  10. Fluency in English and Arabic (both verbal and written), Turkish is an advantage.
  11. Ability to create new ideas, relationships, systems, or products, including creative contributions
  12. Capacity to innovate and solve problems.
  13. Proficient in the use of computer applications related to the tasks is essential.
  14. Experience working with local NGOs, INGOs, and government bodies would be an advantage.
